Alex Luna joined the NJIT men’s soccer coaching staff in February 2022 as the Goalkeeper Coach.

Luna comes to NJIT with 13 years experience at the collegiate and high school levels.

After one season at Don Bosco Prep High School as the Goalkeeper Coach (2017-18), Luna helped guide Don Bosco in capturing the Big North United Conference Championship.

He spent seven seasons at St. Joseph Regional High School (2011-17) and served as head coach and one season as Assistant Coach at New Jersey City University (2009-10).

In 2007-08, Luna served as the Assistant Varsity and Goalkeeper Coach at St. Benedict’s Prep High School, guiding St. Benedict’s to the 2007 New Jersey State Prep B Championships while coaching ex-professional players in Keith Cardona and Carlos Suarez.

Prior to Stevens, Luna spent three seasons as a soccer coach at Hudson Catholic High School in Jersey City, N.J. During his time there, he guided the Hawks to the finals of the Hudson County Interscholastic Athletic Association tournament. Furthermore, 10 of Luna’s former players are currently playing at the NCAA level.

In 2002, Luna began his career on the sidelines as an assistant coach at Montclair High School in Montclair, NJ, where he led the Cavaliers to three straight conference and county titles as well as a state sectional championship in his first year there.

As a player, Luna spent four years competing for Montclair State University from 1998-2001. During his tenure with the Red Hawks, Luna was a two-time New Jersey Athletic Conference Player of the Year. He is also first on the all-time career shutout list and second in the all-time career victories standings.

Upon graduation, Luna played for the Carolina Dynamo of the United Soccer Leagues Premier Developmental League from 2001-02 and the Kappa Real Wyckoff from 2003-06, which was where he won the Goalkeeper of the Year award in 2003, 2004 and 2005.

Luna holds a B.S. in Business Administration with a concentration in Management from Montclair State.
