Brad Shore is going into his sixth season with the Florida Atlantic University men’s soccer team as an assistant coach. Shore joined the Owls prior to the 2017 season after Joey Worthen took over the program. Shore works specifically on the development of the Owls’ goalkeepers.

The Owls have continued to trend in a positive direction, as the team is coming off back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 2003-04. FAU had a 9-7-3 record, which was capped by an impressive performance in the Conference USA Championship Title game. The Owls beat the tournament-host Charlotte in penalty kicks, 5-3, and upset the reigning College Cup Champion in Marshall, 3-1, in the semifinals.

FAU’s goalkeeper Neil Strauber had another impressive performance in the 2021 season, ending the year with five shutouts, a league’s most 81 saves (ranked No. 8 nationally) and a 1.58 goals against average. In the conference tournament, Strauber led the Owls with just three goals allowed across three matches and 11 critical total saves.

In the 2021 spring season, the Owls’ 6-4-2 record marked the program’s first winning season since 2007. The team’s backline and goalkeeping work held opponents to 11 goals and a 0.92 goals against average, both becoming school records. FAU finished fifth in the conference with nine points and a program’s best No. 52 finish in the RPI.

Shore was instrumental in the development of keeper Strauber, who started in each of the Owls’ 12 matches in spring 2021. Strauber tallied four shutouts and conceded just 11 goals, sitting at No. 3 in goals against average (0.88) and No. 4 in shutouts in a single season at FAU. Strauber was awarded national recognition as the United Soccer Coaches Player of the Week, becoming the first Owl in school history to win the award. He was also recognized as the C-USA Defensive Player of the Week following a 4-0 shutout performance over NCAA Tournament qualifier Jacksonville.

In 2019, FAU qualified for its first C-USA Tournament and first conference tournament berth since 2008. FAU’s 2019 season saw split time between Daniel Ragoo and Hagay Jalon at net. Both combined for a 1.83 Goals Against Average, a 0.697 save percentage and four shutouts.

Shore saw Jalon gather C-USA Defensive Player of the Week twice during the season, becoming the first defensive weekly honor for the Owls since joining the league. The goalkeeper took home the award after shutout wins against No. 17 James Madison (1-0) and No. 15 Marshall (1-0 OT). Jalon also was recognized as a CoSIDA Academic All-American, a first for the program.

In his second year with the Owls in 2018, Shore developed Jalon to put together a strong season, leading C-USA with 76 saves on the season and a 5.07 saves per game average. Jalon was also named to the C-USA All-Academic Team and CoSIDA Academic All-District Team.

Shore has been with Worthen since his first season in 2017.
