Head coach David Costa selected Cam Olson as assistant coach of the Belmont University men’s soccer program in March of 2022. Olson arrives in the Music City following a season at the Patriot League’s Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, and brings four seasons of collegiate coaching experience to Belmont.

On a collegiate coaching staff for seven years, Olson spent the last six seasons with NCAA Division I men’s soccer programs Xavier, Vermont and Bucknell.

During the 2021 season, Olson served as an assistant coach at Bucknell where he helped lead sophomore striker Jordan Miller to All-Patriot League Third Team honors. A young squad, the Bison began their season with two top-10 road matches at North Carolina and Wake Forest.

Following the COVID-19 global pandemic alterations during 2020, Olson was an assistant coach at the University of Vermont. He assisted in all aspects of the program and helped guide the Catamounts to a runner-up finish in the America East Conference during the 2020-21 season with a 5-2-1 overall record and a 4-1-1 mark in league play. With Olson on staff, Vermont received top-25 votes and junior midfielder Alex Nagy garnered All-American Third Team laurels. Olson also helped mentor America East Rookie of the Year Daniel Pacella as six different Catamounts received all-conference recognition and four were named all-region.

Prior to his stay in Burlington, Vermont, Olson spent four seasons at Xavier where he served as an assistant coach during the Musketeers’ 2019 campaign. Olson was the program’s director of operations from January of 2016 to the summer of 2019 and spent two seasons on Xavier’s staff during Costa’s time as an associate head coach.

With Olson on staff, the Musketeers compiled 33 match wins and earned results against numerous ranked opponents. Assisting with scouting and running daily training sessions as an assistant coach, Olson planned travel, aided in recruiting visits and was instrumental in player development as director of operations. Xavier reached the BIG EAST Conference Championship title match in 2017, was ranked in the national top 25, advanced to three consecutive BIG EAST Championships and earned a United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for four-straight years. The Musketeers’ 2019 recruiting class was ranked seventh nationally by TopDrwaerSoccer.com and Xavier rose to No. 11 in the nation.

Cory Brown and Jalen Brown were both MLS Draft picks and MLS Player Combine participants while Olson was at Xavier and nine Musketeers Olson worked with went on to sign professional contracts. In total, Olson coached 15 All-BIG EAST selections, five all-region players and two CoSIDA Academic All-America® honorees during his time in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Before his time in the BIG EAST, Olson spent the 2015 season as an assistant coach at Division III Franklin College in Franklin, Indiana.

Olson enjoyed a four-year playing career at Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania, where he was a four-year starter from 2012-15. A two-time team captain for the Gators, Olson scored 11 goals and finished in the top 10 in school history in assists. He earned All-North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) accolades in 2012, led Allegheny to a No. 20 national ranking and was the team’s offensive MVP in 2013.

Also spending time at Lancaster University in Lancaster, England, Olson scored the game-winning goal versus York to earn the 2014 Roses Tournament Championship, the largest inter-university sports tournament in Europe. A two-year member of the Olympic Development Program Region I team, Olson was selected to compete internationally in England and Scotland prior to his college playing career. He was a three-year captain of the Olympic Development Program Eastern New York team and helped his FSA United club team to three consecutive Connecticut State Cup Championships.

A native of Boston, Massachusetts, Olson earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology from Allegheny in 2015 before adding a master’s degree in coaching education and athlete development from Xavier in 2016.

Olson owns a United States Soccer Federation (USSF) ‘C’ License and a United Soccer Coaches Goalkeeping II diploma. He is also a certified personal trainer through the American Council on Exercise (ACE).

Cam and his wife, Katelynn, reside in Nashville.
