The NMU men's soccer program has announced the hiring of Chance Vang as an assistant coach for the 2024 season.

Vang most recently spent the 2023 season at the University of Colorado - Colorado Springs (UCCS), where the program had an overall record of 10-6-5 with an appearance in the NCAA National Tournament. The Mountain Lions were ranked as high as No. 14 in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 NCAA DII National Polls.

Prior to UCCS, Vang served as the Head Coach at Northeastern Junior College where he led the program to a record of 24-7-3 over two years (2021-2023). In his tenure as the head coach, the program was ranked as high as No. 18 in the NJCAA Divison I National Rankings.

Vang is uniquely qualified for the position, as he is a former student-athlete and graduate of UW-Parkside, a member of the GLIAC. Vang was a member of both the GLIAC Regular Season and Tournament Champion team in 2019; a season that included an at-large bid into the NCAA National Tournament.

Originally from Denver, Colorado, Vang grew up playing in the Colorado Rapids MLS Academy and Colorado Rush Academy in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy League (DA). In 2012, Vang led the Colorado Rapids to a Colorado State Cup Championship and was also named Colorado State MVP.

Vang also serves as an assistant coach and board member for the Hmong Futbol Federation who have qualified for the CONIFA World Cup, an international competition with other stateless ethnic groups.
