Johnson joined the Leopards coaching staff in February 2021, serving as the program’s assistant coach.

Fall 2023 season, Johnson and Lafayette earned a record of 9-6-6 and a Patriot League Championship finals appearance. Lafayette ranked in the top three in all-offensive and defensive statistical categories in the Patriot League. Four Leopards were named to All-Patriot League Teams and two players earned United Soccer Coaches All-Region honors.

In the 2022 season, Johnson assisted Lafayette to a record of 9-6-4 and a Patriot League tournament quarterfinal berth. Lafayette ranked No. 25 in the country for team goals-against average (0.895). Six Leopards were named to All-Patriot League Teams and two earned United Soccer Coaches All-Region honors.

During the fall 2021 season, Johnson helped lead the Leopards to a record of 7-7-4. The Leopards had five All-Patriot League selections as well as, an All-Patriot Academic Team.  Nick Hazel and Marcos Kitromilides were both selected to the 2021 Men's MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List, out of 44 players in the entire country.

In Johnson’s first season in spring of 2021, the Leopards earned a 6-0 undefeated regular season record while winning the Patriot League North Division. Also, Johnson assisted in the program’s 13th Patriot League Championship appearance in the 31 years of the Patriot League Tournament. The Leopards also broke into the United Soccer Coaches Top-25 pool, ranked No. 24 nationally in the 2021 spring season. Lafayette goalkeepers ranked No. 57 in the nation in Goals Against Average with a 0.98. Johnson coached an All-American selection, the Co-Defensive Patriot League Player of the Year, five All-Region selections, and six All-Patriot League selections.

Prior to Johnson’s arrival, he also served as a first-assistant and goalkeeper coach for Pennsylvania State University-Harrisburg men’s program for two years. During his tenure, PSU Harrisburg captured its first North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Championship and appeared in the NCAA Division III Soccer Championship Tournament for the first time in program history. In the fall 2019 season, PSU Harrisburg goalkeepers ranked first in the nation for regular-season shutouts (12 shutouts). Johnson also assisted in setting a new single-season win record (15 wins) with a 15-6-1 record.

From 2017-2019, Johnson served as the first assistant and goalkeeper coach at McDaniel College. While there, he assisted the program to its first winning season and playoff berth in 12 years. Also, Johnson assisted helped push McDaniel to the program’s best defensive record for total goals-against in 20 years. Johnson and McDaniel compiled a record of 16-14-5 over two seasons.

Johnson attended York College of Pennsylvania, where he had a four-year playing career that included a Capital Athletic Conference title and a trip to the NCAA Division III Sweet Sixteen in 2013. He was a two-year team captain and appeared in 56 games for the Spartans, fourth all-time. Johnson also ranks in the top five of all goalkeeper records at York College.

He graduated from York College with a Bachelor’s degree in Sport Management and a minor in athletic coaching in 2017. He later earned his Master’s Degree in Kinesiology from McDaniel College in 2019. Johnson holds a United Soccer Coaches Advanced National Diploma and a United Soccer Coaches Goalkeeper Level 3 diploma.
