Kinsey Dunst Nelson enters her second year as head athletic trainer at Francis Marion University. She oversees a staff of two assistant athletic trainers.

A native of Milwaukee, Wis., Nelson came to FMU from Coker University where she served as an athletic trainer for four years.  She also filled the role of strength and conditioning coach for the final two years.  While working with the Cobra athletic department, she served as the primary trainer for seven different sports, oversaw the athletic training department's budget and supply ordering, and was the primary point of contact with the department's secondary insurance provider.

She earned a B.S. degree in athletic training from the University of Pittsburgh in 2015 and a M.S. degree in health and human physiology from the University of Iowa in 2017.

While working on her master's degree, she was a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Iowa and was the primary athletic trainer for the softball program.  In addition, she served one summer as a certified athletic trainer intern with the Hawkeye football program.

Nelson is a current member of the South Carolina Athletic Trainers’ Association (SCATA) Young Professionals Committee. She is a certified strength and conditioning coach (CSCS), is certified in Dry Needling, and is trained in Graston Technique and Fascial Abrasion Tool (FAT) Technique.

During the summer of 2021, she married Derrick Nelson.
