Mount St. Mary’s men’s soccer head coach Brett Teach has added Liam Behrens to the position of assistant coach ahead of the 2024 season.

Behrens brings to the Mount almost 30 years of experience at the collegiate level, with his most recent stop being a full-time assistant with Gettysburg last season under one-time Mountaineers coach Mark Mettrick. Since 2009, Behrens served as an assistant for several colleges in Maryland and South Central Pennsylvania, working for McDaniel and York College.

From 1997-2005, he worked as the head coach for Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina. Amassing 67 victories for the Quakers, his best run came from 2002-04 with three consecutive third place finishes in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference while going 30-21-7 in that span.

Alongside his coaching career, Behrens had an extensive career working with the YMCA. In nearby Hanover he served as CEO/President of that city’s chapter for 11 years from 2009-2020. He also served as Chief Operating Officer at YMCAs in Greensboro and Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Prior to that, he got his start in the organization in Greater Richmond as a fitness and physical director.

Behrens graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1988 with a degree in rehabilitation services. He was a standout for the Rams soccer team, earning all-conference and all-state accolades helping him earn induction to the VCU Athletics Hall of Fame. Going on to a professional career, he went on to play for five teams along the Eastern Seaboard, as well as the Southeast and Midwest.
