Matt Smith begins his second stint on the Trevecca men's soccer coaching staff. Smith was an assistant with Jeff Carr, but spent a year away focusing on his ministry work with Ultimate Goal Ministries. Smith started with the Trojans during the 2006-2007 season and after a year away from the program, returned for the 2010-2011 season.  This will be his 12th season on the sidelines.

Despite not being on the sidelines, he was still active with the team with ministry opportunities. The team donated jersey's for some of Smith's youth teams at Ultimate Goal.

Originally from Warsaw, Indiana, Smith attended Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in History and worked in the Athletic Director's office. Matt met his wife, Lupita, in 2001 while doing missions work in Mexico.  Matt and Lupita have been married for 3 years and have a son, Ricky.

As a coach, Smith coached club soccer at the U19 level for five years, notching two state championships during that span.

In 2000, Smith joined Ultimate Goal Ministries, a soccer outreach ministry based in Nashville, Tennessee. Ultimate Goal focuses on ministering to the refugee and international youth in the greater Nashville area. He currently works with the ministry as the Director of Coaching and Outreach Coordinator.
