Rey Martinez joins the Alfred University men's soccer staff as an assistant coach entering the 2022 season after finishing an extensive playing career. 

Prior to AU, Martinez served as an assistant coach for the Rochester Lancers and Syracuse Silver Knights of the Major Arena Soccer League and as the Director of Programming for the Delaware Soccer Club. A native of Havana, Cuba, Martinez was also an assistant coach for five years with the D'Youville College men's and women's soccer teams. 

Martinez began his professional playing career for Ciudad la Habana. The teams Martinez represented over the years include the Colorado Rapids, Rochester Rhinos, Carolina Railhawks, Real Maryland Monarchs, Baltimore Blast, New Jersey Ironmen, St. Louis Steamers, Philadelphia Kixx, Rochester Lancers, and Syracuse Silver Knights. 

Martinez went on to represent Cuba on the National team on multiple occasions. He made his debut with the team in the 1999 Panamerican game in Winnipeg, Canada. Martinez also played in tournaments such as the FIFA World Cup qualifications, Caribbean Cup, Olympics qualification, and Concacaf Gold Cup.
