Ryan Hagerty is beginning his 20th season as a member of the men's soccer coaching staff in 2022.

During his time on the sidelines, Hagerty has been instrumental in Christopher Newport’s numerous postseason runs. Since joining the staff, he has helped guide the Captains to ten NCAA Tournament berths, including Elite Eight appearances in 2008, 2009 and 2014.

Before joining legendary head coach Steve Shaw on the sidelines, and continuing his post under current head coach Justin Chezem, Hagerty was a three-year standout for the Captains. As a player, he helped anchor a defense that allowed just 18 goals in 22 games and rolled to the Elite Eight in 2000.

In 2021, Hagerty was named one of the inaugural inductees to the Gerard Mosely Wall of Fame, recognizing Christopher Newport men's soccer players and coaches for significant contributions to the program. In his over two decades of service with the Captains as a player and coach, Hagerty has been a part of nearly 300 victories.

A Virginia Beach native, he led Kempsville High School to a state championship and also garnered First Team All-State and All-Beach District honors during that time.

Hagerty and his wife Lindsay have a daughter, Kylee, and son, Mason, and are currently living in Seaford. He is a History teacher and coach at York High School in the York County Public School System.
