Stephen Marshall was named CBU Assistant Men's Soccer Coach in February of 2016 after previously coaching at Northwest Nazarene with Coach Coe Michaelson.

Since joining Michaelson at CBU in 2016, the pair has built an overall record of 61-38-10 while holding a 39-23-5 record in conference play between the PacWest and the Western Athletic Conference. During the spring 2021 season, the team was ranked in the United Soccer Coaches Far West Region Poll every week of the season, climbing as high as sixth in a region containing numerous Pac-12, Big West, and WAC competitors.

In 2022, the Lancers finished with a 11-7-3 record and placed fifth in the conference. In their first year eligible for the WAC Tournament, CBU hosted the tournament and went on a historic run, beating #4 Utah Valley, #1 Air Force, and #2 San Jose State to claim the Championship. In the championship game vs San Jose State it came down to penalty kicks were Tournament MOP Nolan Premack blocked the first attempt to set up the 3-1 victory. The CBU-hosted tournament set a conference record for attendance with 1,416.

The Lancers claimed the auto bid and competed in their first NCAA Tournament were they drew UCLA and lost in a close game 2-1 in Westwood. CBU received five All-WAC selection in 2022 with Thomas Beecham and Bryan Iliohan named to the First Team, David Cordes and Luis Mueller named to the Second Team, and Adolfo Pino landing on the All-Freshman team.

Among many duties, Marshall leads the Lancers' recruiting efforts, which has produced top-tier domestic and international talent in recent years, evident in the program's year-over-year record improvement. He also heads up opposition scouting for the team, ensuring that the staff and squad are educated and prepared for the next match.

Most notably, Marshall has spearheaded the program's tremendous improvement in its annual grade-point average. The squad owned a 2.923 cumulative GPA the season before Michaelson and Marshall took over. Since then, Marshall has guided the team to an incredible improvement as the team finished the 2020-21 school year with a 3.466 cumulative GPA. It ranked as the third-highest men's team GPA in the CBU Athletic Department.

While at NNU, Marshall assisted in all aspects of the Crusader (now known as the Nighthawks, NNU changed its mascot in 2017) men's soccer program, has a USSF D License and taught classes in the NNU Kinesiology Department. He also coached club soccer for the Boise Nationals. He led the BNSC Milan team to the Idaho Youth Soccer State Cup Championship and the Far West Regionals Quarterfinals in 2014.

As a player, Marshall was a three-time All-GNAC selection for the Crusaders from 2010-12. He was a key defender for the squad as they finished second in the GNAC in 2012, narrowly missing out on the NCAA Division II National Tournament. He was also a three-year captain and a two-time academic all-conference selection. Additionally, in 2012, he was an NSCAA All-Region selection both athletically and academically.

Prior to attending NNU, Marshall played NCAA Division I soccer at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. As a youth player, he was a member of the most successful youth soccer team in the history of US Youth Soccer, Arsenal '89, out of Southern California. He was a co-captain on the squad that went to four consecutive National Championship matches, including National Championship victories in 2004, 2005 and 2006.

Marshall completed his master's degree at CBU in May 2018, earning a Master's of Kinesiology in Sports Management.
