Edgewood College’s nationwide search for a new head men’s soccer coach has turned up a fantastic candidate close to home. The Eagles have named alumnus Tim Bruner to take over the Eagles men’s soccer program.
“I am pleased to welcome Tim Bruner back to Edgewood College.” said Eagles Director of Athletics Suann Saltzberry. “Coach Bruner’s experience, excitement and love for Edgewood College and the soccer program make him the perfect candidate. He is well positioned to move the program forward as a former Eagle student-athlete, who is connected with former players, alumni, current students, faculty and staff. Bruner has established a strong reputation within the soccer community that will lead to many successes for the men’s soccer program.”
Bruner is quite familiar with Edgewood College, having graduated in 2003 with a bachelor’s degree in business after spending time on both the men’s soccer and tennis teams. Bruner currently ranks fourth all-time in points (92), sixth in goals (33) and remains the leader in assists (26). One of his proudest moments as a player came when Edgewood College participated in the NCAA Tournament in 1999. Most recently, Bruner served as an assistant coach with the women’s soccer program from 2018-2020 and assisted the men’s program from 2016-2019.
“Being chosen to lead the men’s soccer program is an honor.” Bruner said. “As a former player and assistant coach, Edgewood College has had such a massive influence in my life. I aim to create similar positive experiences for our student-athletes. I’m excited to get to work. Go Eagles!”
Bruner has vast experience in the Madison area. Since 2021 he served as the head coach for the men’s soccer team at Madison College. Over two seasons he led the Wolfpack to a 22-8-2 record and a 12-2-1 conference record. In 2022 the men’s soccer team secured the first North Central Community College Conference Championship since 2016. The Wolfpack reached the NJCAA Region 4 Tournament Semifinal in both years under Bruner’s leadership and earned a NJCAA Midwest District Tournament game in 2022. Bruner coached Gabe Voung to NJCAA Division III First Team All-American honors in 2022 after he recorded a program-record 25 goals and 54 total points.
Bruner also brings an extensive background into the club soccer scene. He has served as a team trainer and head coach with the Madison 56ers since June of 2017. He has also coached at Rush Soccer Club.
Bruner was a 1998 graduate of Racine St. Catherine’s, where he competed in both soccer and track & field.
Bruner currently lives in Verona, Wisconsin, with his wife, Elsa, and three young daughters.
