Aaron Suma will be heading into his eighth year as Marist’s Head Strength and Conditioning Coach during the 2022-23 academic year.
During his tenure at Marist, he has helped in contributing to 11 MAAC Championships in multiple sports and trained nearly 1,500 collegiate athletes to improve their athleticism and reduction in occurrence of injuries. In addition, Coach Suma helped in the planning and layout of the new 6,000-square foot Team Weight Room that is amongst the best of the Mid-Major Programs in the nation.
Before arriving at Marist, Suma had most recently served as Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, a position he had held from 2012-15. There, he supervised and managed all daily operations of the strength and conditioning programs for the Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Softball, and Volleyball teams while helping the Men’s Basketball team win the RMAC Championship for the first time in school history in 2015.
From 2012-15, Suma has also served as a volunteer assistant strength and conditioning coach at the United States Air Force Academy. There he assisted the Director of Strength and Conditioning and worked directly with men’s and women’s basketball, track throwers, baseball, hockey, wrestling, golf, and gymnastics.
Suma’s experience also includes a stint as a volunteer assistant strength and conditioning coach and Colorado Mesa University in the summer of 2012.
Suma earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Movement and Exercise Science from the University of Northern Iowa in 2009 and a Master of Arts degree with a concentration in Exercise Science from Northern Iowa in 2011.
Suma is a Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach (RSCC) and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) with the National Strength and Conditioning Association, a USA Weightlifting Level 2 Certified Advanced Sports Performance Coach and is CPR/First Aid/AED certified through the American Heart Association.
