Adam Kirkwood joined The Citadel coaching staff as a graduate assistant coach ahead of the 2022 season.

Kirkwood, a native of Stranraer, Scotland, brought his soccer talents to the United States as a student-athlete at LSU Shreveport from 2017 to 2019, where he was selected to the Presidential Honor Roll and named an NAIA All-American.

He transferred to NCAA Division II Young Harris College (Ga.) for his last two seasons, serving as the team captain during the 2021 season when the Mountain Lions achieved an 18-0-2 mark while advancing to the third round of the NCAA Division II Tournament. Individually, Kirkwood collected All-Conference, All-Region, and Academic All-American accolades. He received his bachelor's degree in December of 2021 in management and marketing.

He spent the Summer of 2022 playing USL League Two with One Knox SC, winning the South Central Division and reaching the national quarterfinals. His college and postgraduate journey includes stops as an indoor soccer referee and youth soccer coach.

Kirkwood's family still resides in Scotland.
