Ajani Clunie was named Associate Head Coach in June 2019 after serving five seasons as assistant coach for the Bloodhounds women’s soccer program. Over the past five years, Clunie has helped build the foundation for the program through his efforts in recruiting and player development. Along with his coaching role, Clunie can be found on campus working as the Coordinator of Media Relations & Operations, as a member of the John Jay College Social Norms Committee, and can be heard announcing men’s and women’s basketball games.

He previously worked as an after-school Director of Kings Bay Y at Avenue W in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. He coached with South Bronx United from 2011-2017 working with Boys U11, U12 & U13, and Girls U19.  He was one of the inaugural coaches for the New York Cosmos Training and Development Program from 2013-2016. While with the Cosmos, he was a coach and trainer for the U9 girls and U13 boys at Rivertowns United Football Club in Ardsley, NY.  He was responsible for planning and running developmental training sessions twice a week, along with managing games with the Head Coach. Clunie’s love of the game brought him to work as a Game Day Marketing Volunteer for the New York Red Bulls from 2010-2012.

The Brooklyn, NY native, earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcasting and Mass Communications from SUNY Oswego in 2007. He completed his Master’s Degree in Sport Management from Brooklyn College in 2012.  He holds a Level 1 FA coaching badge, USC level 5 Diploma, and a USC Level 1 Goal Keeping Diploma. Along with his passion for soccer, Clunie is also the owner of an online radio station in New York.

Coach Sommers on Clunie: “Ajani has a great talent in bringing out the best in our players both on and off the field. His love for the game shines through every time we step on the field, and his desire to identify top talent in the area will continue to bring the program to new heights.”
