Dr. Snyder is a native of Greenville, SC, graduating from nearby Travelers Rest High School. He earned a BS in Health and Exercise Science from Furman University where he was mentored by several members of the current Health Sciences faculty, including Tony Caterisano and Tim Patrick, who was his undergraduate advisor. After earning an MS in Physiological Sciences at the University of Arizona and a PhD in Biological Sciences (muscle physiology emphasis) at Ohio University, Dr. Snyder taught at Schreiner University in Kerrville, TX, and then Shenandoah University in Winchester, VA. He served as chair of the Exercise Science program at USC Upstate from 2009-2017.

Snyder is a committed and active member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association, earning a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification in 2003 and serving on the Education Committee, Certification Committee, and CSCS Exam Development Committee, and reviewing submissions to the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research.

Dr. Snyder's research interest is sport science, with an emphasis on training techniques and their role in injury prevention. Current projects will focus on the usefulness of wearable technology during competition and training to reduce fatigue-related injury.

When not teaching, Dr. Snyder enjoys spending time with his wife and children and following his favorite sports teams: Tottenham Hotspur of the English Premier League, the NBA's San Antonio Spurs, and the Furman Paladins.
