Bill Irwin is set to return for his sixth season working with the women's program and second season assisting the men's program in the fall of 2023.
For over a decade, Irwin was the head coach of the University of Portland men's soccer team, while also serving as Director of Soccer. As an assistant and goalkeeping coach, Irwin was part of the Pilots 2002 national championship, the first NCAA title for Portland. In all, the Pilots men's and women's soccer programs combined for 10 NCAA College Cup semifinals appearances during his tenure. Irwin was on the staff for 29 years before stepping down in 2015.
Irwin's coaching roles have included the United States Soccer Federation National Team goalkeeping coach, the U.S. Under-23 Women’s National Team head coach and a youth coach for FC Portland Academy.
As a competitor, Irwin was on the Northern Ireland Youth and Amateur teams, teams in the Irish League and English second and third division, four different North American Soccer League teams from 1978-82 and three Major Indoor Soccer League franchises from 1982-86 - including the Portland Timbers in 1982.
He holds his Bachelor of Arts degree from Portland.
