Bill O’Neill—who has over 30 years of playing and coaching experience—is going into his eighth at Bryn Athyn College in 2023 as the head coach of the men’s and women’s programs. In addition to his coaching duties, O’Neill is an assistant athletics director of operations.

Since starting the women’s program in 2016, O’Neill has led the Lions to 51 victories, four conference playoff appearances, two conference championships, and two NCAA tournament appearances. 

In 2022, O'Neill led the Lions to back-to-back titles with a 1-0 win in the championship over #1 seeded Cedar Crest. Freshman, Kira Bradley garnered championship Most Outstanding Player award. O'Neill saw his program shatter every program record with goals, assists, goals per game, wins, conference wins, and win percentage. The Lady Lions led NCAA III in goals per game. Ashley Rivera was once again named Player of the Year in the Conference. Maria Storck, Shea Gormley, Kira Bradley, Kylie Scarpiello, and Ciara McFeely all were named to the all-conference team as well. 

In 2021, O'Neill made history with both the men's and women's soccer program. O'Neill directed the men's program to their best season in program history which led to their first playoff berth in the CSAC playoffs. Owen Ovecka, Justin Lykunov, and Vincent Buccafuri were name to All-CSAC teams. On the women's side, O'Neill led the program to the school's first championship in school history. The Lions defeated Cairn 4-2 in the final. The 2021 season saw the Lady Lions set the program record for wins, conference wins, win percentage, and winning streak. Ashley Rivera was named CSAC Player of the Year. Payton Gormley, Shea Gormley, Paulina Storck, Maria Storck, and Tori Titano were all named to the All-CSAC team.

In 2020, COVID-19 canceled the fall season. O'Neill had 19 student-athletes selected for CSAC All Academic (25 total selections). Ashley Rivera was awarded the Academic Excellence Award from Bryn Athyn College for logging the highest cumulative GPA for the academic year for female student-athletes. 

In 2019, Bryn Athyn posted a 4-7-3 overall record, 3-4-2 in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play. The Lions finished fourth in the league with 6.64 saves per game and fifth with 32 goals allowed. Maggie McCabe led the team in scoring with seven goals. Bryn Athyn had eight players named to the CSAC Fall All-Academic Team for having a GPA of at least 3.2 in the fall.

In 2018, Bryn Athyn went 5-8-2 and qualified for the CSAC Tournament in its first season in the league with a 3-4-1 record to earn the six seed. Tori Titano was named to the All-CSAC second team after leading the team with 10 goals, while Ashley Rivera was an All-CSAC honorable mention selection after posting a team-high eight assists. Six Lions were recognized for their success in the classroom by earning a spot on the CSAC Fall All-Academic Team.

The 2017 season saw the Lions post a 9-7-1 overall record and reach the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Tournament as the three seed in the southern division after going 5-5-0 in division play. Bryn Athyn reached the second round of the NEAC Tournament after getting past Lancaster Bible on penalty kicks in the opening game. Sophomore forward Shelby Puccio scored a program-record 20 goals, which was second in the NEAC, to earn a place on the All-NEAC second team. Kristen White and Gianna Ciacciarelli were both named to the All-NEAC third team. 

Bryn Athyn was 7-9-1 overall in its debut season of 2016. Puccio led the Lions with seven goals.

In the first four years at the helm of the men’s program, O'Neill has led the Lions to 12 victories and coached four all-conference players.

Last season, Bryn Athyn had a pair of representatives on the All-CSAC team with Matheus Chaves and Michael Haas earning honorable mention recognition.

Bryn Athyn notched a pair of victories during the 2018 season. Alex Medina was named to the All-Colonial States Athletic Conference second team.

In 2017, the Lions racked up five wins and had senior David Camara, the team's leading scorer with seven goals, earn a place on the All-North Eastern Athletic Conference third team. Bryn Athyn tied the program record for goals in a season with 31.

The 2016 season—O’Neill’s first with the Lions—saw Bryn Athyn win four matches, three coming in NEAC play. Sophomore midfielder Matheus Sousa was an All-NEAC third-team selection. The Lions had their best offensive season in

Before coming to Bryn Athyn, O’Neill spent three years as the assistant men’s soccer coach at Division II Holy Family. The Tigers had a 19-26-9 overall and made two Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournaments during that three-year span.

O'Neill is a member of the Southeastern PA Soccer Hall of Fame after an illustrious playing career that included honors at George Washington High School and Rowan University.

At George Washington High School, O'Neill won the 1985 and 1987 Philadelphia Public League championship. In his senior year, O'Neill was the team captain, the City Player of the Year, 1st Team All-Public League and All-Scholastic. In his four-year career at Rowan University, O'Neill was named All-New Jersey Athletic Conference every year (1987 - honorable mention, 1988 - third team, 1989 - second team, 1990 - first team) and All-Region in 1989 (third team) and 1990 (second team). O'Neill--a team captain in 1989 and 1990--played in three NCAA Tournaments (1987, 1988, 1990) and won the NCAA Division III championship in 1990.

His playing career continued after college in the professional ranks, where he played for the Philadelphia Freedom of the United States Interregional Soccer League.

O'Neill graduated Magna Cum Laude from Eastern University with a bachelor of science degree early, elementary and special education. He currently holds a USSF D license.
