Brian Lybert returns to the Christopher Newport women's soccer coaching staff for his second season in 2022.

In 2021, Lybert was honored by the United Soccer Coaches as part of the National Coaching Staff of the Year, after helping guide the Captains to a national championship and undefeated season. The CNU staff, including Lybert, was also honored as the Region VI Coaching Staff of the Year.

Inducted in the CNU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2018, Brian Lybert is one of the most decorated players in Captains' soccer history. The first player to earn first team All-America honors in 25 years, Lybert was also just the second player in league history to earn Conference Player of the Year honors twice in his career. The standout midfielder became the first player in program history to earn first team All-American honors twice in his career.

A dominant force on the field, Lybert helped guide the Captains to four straight NCAA Tournament appearances, including a pair of Elite Eight runs in 2008 and 2009. He appeared in 89 games and established a new program and league record, that still stands today, with 45 career assists. During his junior and senior years, he posted back-to-back 35-point campaigns with 21 goals and 28 assists while notching 7 game-winning goals.

Since leaving the program as a player, Lybert has served as the varsity boys soccer coach at Menchville HS, building the Monarchs program into a championship-caliber team. He led Menchville to the team's first ever regional tournament appearance in 2018 and has molded the program into one of the best teams in the Peninsula District.

Lybert graduated Christopher Newport with a degree in Information Science. He and his wife Kendall have two daughters, Kora and Mila, and live in Yorktown.
