SPOKANE, Wash. – Cameron Bushéy heads into his second season as women’s soccer coach in 2023.  He guided the Pirates to a 6-8-5 overall record and 6-6-4 mark in the Northwest Conference in his first campaign.

Bushéy, who was the top assistant coach at Stanislaus State University in California, replaced Bryan Olson.  Olson resigned following the 2021 season to pursue overseas ministry opportunities.  Bushéy has deep roots in Spokane.  He grew up in town, played club and high school soccer in Spokane and began his coaching career here.  Prior to starting at Stanislaus State in the fall of 2020, Bushéy was an assistant coach at Gonzaga University with the men’s team for two seasons (2018 and 2019).

Bushéy began his coaching career while still in college at Whitworth, as a head coach of high school aged girls’ teams with the Spokane Shadow Soccer Club.  In 2012, he moved to Colorado where he was the top assistant coach with the Colorado Rush women’s first team for two years, coaching college-age players.  He also was a head coach of several Colorado Rush girls’ high school teams until 2015, before moving back to Spokane in 2016.  He became the Director of Coaching and head coach of the Spokane Shadow girls’ team while also serving as an assistant coach of the men’s program with the Community Colleges of Spokane.  In 2017, Bushéy took on the additional duties of men’s First Team head coach with Shadow SC.

Bushéy is a Pirate soccer alum, and now, a coaching legacy at Whitworth.  He graduated in 2012 after a stellar career playing for the men’s soccer team under Sean Bushéy, his father.  Bushéy was a four-time All-Northwest Conference honoree who helped lead the Pirates to three NWC titles and NCAA Division III tournament appearances in 2008 and 2009.

Sean Bushéy was the men’s soccer coach at Whitworth from 1996 – 2013, compiling a record of 209-86-35 while winning eight Northwest Conference titles in 17 seasons.  He was simultaneously the women’s soccer coach from 1997 through 2008 with a record of 123-90-16.

Bushéy takes over a team that returns several key pieces from 2021, when the Pirates went 11-6-3 overall and 8-5-3 in the NWC.

Cameron and his wife Kasey have three children: Theodore, Elaine, and Peter.
