ERIE, Pa. – Gannon University added Daniel Poe as an assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s soccer teams in August 2023. Poe had previously worked as an assistant coach at NCAA levels of collegiate soccer, including most recently serving as the head coach at Mercyhurst North East of the NJCAA.

Poe is currently working as head/assistant coach of the local NPSL and under 23 Erie Commodores soccer programs. From April 2021 to this past December he was a staff coach at the Soccer Institute of Montverde Academy. His duties included communication and contact with college coaches of all divisions. He has been the head coach and youth technical director for Erie Admirals/MSA soccer club/Erie Commodores since 2014.

He spent five seasons as the head coach at Mercyhurst North East, from August 2015 to April 2020. He was also the Director of the University Fitness Center. That was preceded by a stint as an assistant coach for the women’s soccer team at Penn State Behrend in 2014. He assisted the Lions to their fourth straight AMCC Tournament Championship and a berth in the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Poe gained experience at the Division I level in 2012 and 2013 as an assistant coach with the men’s program at Binghamton University. Earlier in 2012 he was a coach within the New York Red Bulls Training Programs, Red Bulls New York Academies INC.

Poe played collegiately at Clemson University from 2004-08. He was a four-year letterman who helped the Tigers to the 2005 NCAA Division I Final Four and the 2006 NCAA round of 16. He was named the ACC Player of the Week once.

Poe graduated from Clemson in December 2008 with a bachelor of arts degree in business management, with an emphasis in entrepreneurship. He had trials in 2008 with Real MD USL Division II team and the Baltimore Blast of the Major Indoor Soccer League.
