David McLaughlin was hired as the head coach of the institution's women's soccer program in late August of 2022. McLaughlin boasts a wealth of experience in soccer as both a coach and former player, and brings a unique passion for the game with him to the college.

"We are excited to announce the appointment of David as our women's soccer coach," Director of Athletics Chetara Murphy said. "Mr. McLaughlin brings over 25 years of coaching experience with him to our institution, including seven years on the college level. He has a diverse resume, and is incredibly passionate about the sport. He has embraced the challenge of turning our women's soccer program around, and we're optimistic about the trajectory of women's soccer with David on board."

Most recently, McLaughin served as the head coach of the Vaughn College men's soccer program from 2013-2017. Vaughn College competes regionally in the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and nationally in the Unites States College Athletic Association. There, he paced the Warriors to the semifinals of the HVIAC tournament on two occasions, and was essential to the continued growth of the program.

Prior to his days at Vaughn College, McLaughlin coached for three years at CUNYAC borough-rival Brooklyn College. There, he paced the Bulldogs' men's soccer team to a CUNYAC quarterfinal round victory over the Dolphins of the College of Staten Island in 2008. Additionally, the team was ranked in the Adidas Top Ten in the NCAA Northeast for the first time in over 20 years. Now at Medgar Evers College, McLaughlin looks forward to being an instrument of change for the school's women's soccer program.

"First and foremost, I'd like to thank Director of Athletics Chetara Murphy for granting me this opportunity," McLaughlin said. "I look forward to building the women's soccer team, and drawing attention to what this institution offers to students. There is an untapped wealth of possible players out there who I believe we can reach by promoting the Medgar Evers courses of study, and guiding students as they gain a great education while maximizing their college experience through athletics and another outlets."

On the club level, McLaughlin captured two NY State Cup titles with the NYC United Ladies Soccer team, and three State Cups with a club squad in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

As a player, McLaughlin started the varsity men's soccer team at Xaverian High School in Brooklyn in 1971, where he served as the captain for three seasons, while also being tabbed as the team's Most Valuable Player. Additionally, he played Division I soccer for Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
