Garret Sulak joined the Columbia University Athletics Communications staff in December 2022. He is the primary communications contact for the Columbia wrestling, softball, tennis and women’s soccer programs.
Sulak joins the Columbia staff after a stint serving as the sports information director at Jarvis Christian University in Texas. He led the public relations and social media efforts for the University’s 15 athletic programs, while also serving as the statistician for all home contests. He was also instrumental in publicizing the school’s new men’s and women’s wrestling programs.
Sulak also has five combined years of student experience in the field of college athletics, including two as a graduate assistant at McLennan College, two as an athletic communications student assistant at Louisiana State University and one as a manager for the LSU women’s basketball team.
In his two years at McLennan, Sulak assisted the SID in covering the school’s seven teams. He also worked closely with the athletic director to handle administrative tasks and increase the athletics fundraising effort.
As a student at LSU, Sulak worked with the football, basketball, baseball, tennis and golf programs. He led the social media efforts for teams, drafted articles that were published on the athletics website, and coordinated interviews with the local media. Sulak was part of the student staff during the football team’s 2019 national championship.
A native of Abbott, Texas, Sulak graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport administration from LSU in 2020, minoring in business administration and public relations. He added a master’s degree in sports management from Baylor University in 2022. He and his fiancée reside in the Upper West Side with their dog, Jackson.
