Nicholson was named Head Coach and Assistant Athletic Director on September 28, 2023 after serving as Interim Head Coach since August 10, 2023. Nicholson previously served as an assistant coach for both the women's and men's soccer programs at Mercy for the last four years.
Nicholson has won three ECC Championships during his time as an assistant coach at Mercy. Nicholson was a four-year starter in goal for ECC rival St. Thomas Aquinas College, earning multiple defensive players of the week awards during his time. He was also named Third Team All-ECC in 2018. Nicholson also served on the NCAA Student Athlete Advisory Committee and was the ECC representative on the board. He also was the student-athlete representative to the Division II Management Council. Nicholson holds a USSF D License and currently coaches for the New Jersey Crush FC-Elite, an all-girls club.
"It is an honor for me to be named Head Coach at Mercy. In the last four years this team has continued to go from strength to strength and it is a privilege for me to be leading them. In my time at Mercy the support I have received from Matt Kilcullen, Bill Sullivan and Dawn Sachs has been invaluable to me, and I cannot thank them enough for giving me this opportunity. I am excited to continue working with this fantastic group, and to ensure that we perform to the very high standards that we always set ourselves. Go Mavs!" stated Nicholson.
"Jack clearly demonstrated in his years as an assistant here to both soccer programs, that he is well deserving of this position," said Assistant VP of Athletics, Matt Kilcullen Jr. "As a college student-athlete, Jack was President of National SAAC (Student Athlete Advisory Committee) and we feel he will bring that experience to enhance the lives of our student athletes. Our program has gotten better today with the hiring of Jack Nicholson."
