Jess Burlingame is in her first year as the assistant strength and conditioning coach. She was named to the position August 8, 2023.
Burlingame, along with head strength and conditioning coach PJ Piotrowski, will oversee nearly 400 student-athletes across 19 varsity sports programs.
"Jess brings a ton of coaching experience to the table across a variety of NCAA levels and sports that will be invaluable not only to myself, but the student athletes and coaches she works alongside," Piotrowski said. "Her hire is a massive step in the continued development of the UW-Superior strength and conditioning program."
Burlingame comes to UW-Superior after spending the last year as an assistant softball coach at the College of St. Scholastica (CSS). Prior to her time with the Saints, Burlingame began developing her resume in the strength and conditioning field. She served as a graduate fellow in strength and conditioning at Merrimack College in North Andover, Mass. during the 2019-20 year. From there she went to work for Sanford POWER in Fargo, N.D. before spending a year as the assistant strength and conditioning coach at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Conn.
In February 2022, Burlingame came to the Twin Ports, accepting a position as the assistant strength and conditioning coach at the University of Minnesota Duluth. She has also done multiple stints with USA Hockey, working at its festival in New York in August of 2022 and 2023.
A native of Andover, Minn., Burlingame played NCAA Division II softball at Bemidji State University (BSU) from 2015 through 2019. In her four years with the Beavers, Burlingame was a two-time All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) selection (2017, 2019) and was a member of the NSIC All-Tournament Team in 2016. She was also a three-time member of the NSIC All-Academic Team (2017, 2018, 2019).
Following her career at BSU, Burlingame played a summer of professional softball in the American Softball Association (ASBA), earning All-ASBA First Team and ASBA All-Defensive Team honors in 2019.
Burlingame earned her Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry, with an emphasis in biochemistry from BSU in 2019. She followed that up by earning a Master of Science degree in exercise and sport science from Merrimack College in 2020.
