Former USF All-American golfer and head men’s golf coach Jim Fee was promoted to the position of Associate Director of Athletics for Events and Championships in 2013 after being appointed as an assistant athletic director in 2011. In his current role, Fee oversees all of the USF teams’ home athletic contests as well as generating championship hosting opportunities for USF Athletics. Fee also provides sport oversight for the women’s soccer, men’s soccer, women’s golf and men’s golf programs.
Fee transitioned into his administrative role after a 14-year career as the head coach of the USF men's golf team which began in August 1996. Fee’s NCAA committee service includes stints on the NCAA Women’s Golf Committee (2014-2017) and the NCAA Men’s Golf Committee (2023-present).
"I am very pleased that Jim will join our administrative team," former USF Director of Athletics Doug Woolard said in 2010. "He has served the university extremely well as our head men's golf coach. Jim has been considering a transition into athletics administration for some time and I'm delighted that he chose this opportunity. His passion for the university, warm personality and a demonstrated skill set unique to hosting and managing events made this a great match for him."
While Fee's USF playing days were conducted in the Sun Belt Conference, as a coach, he saw the program rise first through the Metro Conference, then Conference USA, and into the Big East Conference.
In his nine years as head coach in C-USA, Fee developed nine All-Conference players and two C-USA All-Tournament Team players. In 2000, Fee was selected C-USA Coach of the Year, leading the Bulls to a third-place finish in the championship, held at The Club at Hidden Creek in Navarre, Fla. Fee’s first year in the BIG EAST yielded one all-conference player and one All-America Scholar.
A 1985 graduate of USF, Fee was named head coach and director of golf at the USF golf course in August 1996. Ten years later, the management of the university’s golf course was transferred to a private management company, shifting Fee’s responsibility to solely focusing on the development of the golf program.
Fee, originally from Lakeland, Fla., graduated from Lake Gibson High School before enrolling at USF in 1981. He won all-Sun Belt honors in his freshman season, and again as a junior and senior. As a freshman, he won the Miami Beach Sun and Fun Collegiate and finished fifth in the Sun Belt Championships.
Fee flourished as a senior en route to All-America honors. Among his six top-10 finishes that season, Fee placed second twice and third once. His stroke average was 73.8 in 39 rounds, including eight sub-70 rounds and a collegiate-low 65. Fee advanced through three of the four rounds in the NCAA Championships that season.
Fee's four playing years came amidst a golden era for USF golf. The Bulls won 11 consecutive Sun Belt Conference titles between 1979 and 1989. During that same period, USF had 39 all-conference golfers and four All-Americans, including Fee.
Upon graduating with his business degree in 1985, Fee embarked on a professional career, which he continued through 1990. At that time, Fee joined the staff at the Ben Sutton Golf School in Sun City, Fla. After four months, he moved to Bloomingdale Golfers Club in Valrico, Fla., as an assistant professional. At Bloomingdale, he advanced to first assistant professional in 1993, and head golf professional in October 1994. Less than two years later, he was hired back to his alma mater as the head men’s golf coach.
Fee and his wife, Lisa, reside in Valrico, Fla.
