Johnathan Katona joined the University of South Florida in June of 2022 as the Assistant Athletic Director of Equipment Operations. He brings extensive athletic equipment experience to the Bull’s athletics family. He oversees all Olympic sport equipment operations and works closely assisting with the athletic departments Adidas contract.
Johnathan comes to Tampa after serving as the Director of Equipment Operations with the University of North Carolina Wilmington. While at UNCW he oversaw all aspects of equipment operations as well as designed and constructed the departments first athletic equipment room. He also played a vital role in the departments brand transition to Under Armour. He also is the equipment director for Nike Team Takeover EYBL and handled all equipment duties for the Victor Oladipo/Ty Lawson Skills Academy and assists with the National High School Hoops Festival.
He also held positions at Evansville University, Quinnipiac University, Howard University and American University. He assisted with several USA Basketball National Team Training Camps and the Northrup Grumman Military Bowl hosted in the Nation’s Capital. From 2009-2011, he served part time as an equipment attendant for the Washington Wizards and assisted with training camp and summer rookie mini camps. Prior to his time in the nation’s capital, he also served as Head Football/Lacrosse Equipment Manager at Widener University (DIII), and as a training camp assistant with the N.Y. Jets (NFL). He began his equipment manager career in the Arena Football League.
Katona served in the United States Coast Guard. In addition, he is a certified athletic equipment manager with the Athletic Equipment Managers Association {AEMA} and resides in Tampa.
