Stones joins the Mountain Lions after spending one season as the assistant coach for the Fort Hays State University Tigers during the 2021 season.

In his time with FHSU, Stones implemented specific training programs among the team with emphasis on midfield and attacking play that helped improve the team’s goals per game (1.32) and shots per game (12.8) stats from 2019. Stones also coordinated travel logistics and assisted in recruiting operations as he was appointed co-interim head coach of the Tigers during the spring of 2022.

Prior to coaching with the Tigers, Stones served as the head coach for Pride Soccer Club’s ECNL from 2016-2021. Stones coached his teams towards a State Cup Finalist and Colorado Champions League Championship in 2017-18 as he went on to be nominated for Colorado Soccer Association Coach of the Year. The successes continued into the 2018-19 season as Stones and his team were crowned State Cup Winners and worked towards a Regional Semi-Final appearance with a Desert Premier League Runner-Up finish on the season.

As a player, Stones played as an attacking mid by spending time in the Premier Arena Soccer League (PASL) with the Golden Strikers (2007-09), Denver Dynamite (2009-2010), and the Colorado Springs Blizzard (2010-14). After his time with the Blizzard, Stones headed off to Auckland, New Zealand where he spent time in the NRFL Premier First Team with the Central United Football Club to wrap-up his playing career.
