The 2023 season will mark Kohl Orner’s third year as an assistant on head coach Jessica Giegucz’s staff for the Slippery Rock University women’s soccer team. As The Rock’s lead assistant, Orner plays a vital role in all facets of the program with a focus on SRU’s goalkeepers and defense.

CAREER AT A GLANCE

• Officially joined The Rock prior to the 2020 season which was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

• Once SRU returned to competition, he helped guide Slippery Rock to a 12-4-3 overall record that ended with a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Tournament appearance in 2021.

• Slippery Rock was ranked first in the PSAC in scoring margin (+1.65), tied for fourth in shutouts (9) and allowed one or less goals in 15 of its 19 contests during the 2021 season.

• Helped to develop five All-PSAC and All-Atlantic Region honorees as well as a two-time PSAC Defensive Player of the Week in Emma Yoder during 2021. 

• Ten shutouts in 2022 was tied for third-best in Slippery Rock women's soccer history, featuring a five-game stretch of allowing zero goals.

• 2017: Averett University (assistant coach for men’s soccer)

• 2018-20: North Carolina Wesleyan College (assistant coach)

• 2021-Present: Slippery Rock (assistant coach) 

CAREER PATH

• Orner began his collegiate coaching career as an assistant coach with the Lebanon Valley College women’s soccer team where he helped LVC to a 12-6 record and a berth into the MAC Commonwealth Conference semifinals.

• He then spent the 2017 season as an assistant coach for the Averett University men’s soccer program in Virginia, where he also served as an advisor with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

• In his last stop prior to joining The Rock’s coaching staff, Orner spent three years as an assistant coach for the women’s soccer program at Division lll North Carolina Wesleyan. 

PLAYING CAREER

• As a student-athlete, Orner played goalkeeper at the Division ll level at fellow PSAC member institution Millersville University, where he served as a team captain.

• In his two seasons with the Marauders, Orner started 29 games and finished with an .811 career save percentage and a 0.79 goals against average.

• He was named to All-PSAC and All-Atlantic Region honors following the 2015 season after helping Millersville reach the NCAA Tournament. 

PERSONAL

• A native of Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

• Holds a United States Soccer Federation "C" License

• Orner earned his Bachelor’s degree in Education from Millersville in 2016.

• Additionally, he earned a Master’s degree in Education Curriculum and Instruction from Averett in 2019.
