Mackenzie Castillo, MEd, LAT, ATC

Mackenzie Castillo started with the Charlotte 49ers Sports Medicine Staff  in January 2023 as an Assistant Athletic Trainer. Her primary responsibility is providing athletic healthcare for the Women’s Soccer program. She also serves as a clinical preceptor for the UNC Charlotte Master of Science Athletic Training Education Program.

Prior to arriving at Charlotte, Mackenzie was the athletic trainer for the West Virginia University Mountaineer’s swimming & diving teams. Castillo’s responsibilities include day-to-day care, rehabilitation and injury prevention.

Castillo earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in athletic training and a minor in biology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2018. While in Charlotte, she worked as an athletic training student, working with Charlotte, Davidson College, and Queens University of Charlotte athletics. Upon graduation, she completed a Post-Undergraduate Athletic Training Internship at Appalachian State University with the women’s field hockey team.After her stint in Boone,  She accepted a graduate assistantship as an athletic trainer at Campbell University. While in Buies Creek, she worked primarily with the softball and women’s swimming programs. Castillo also worked as the host athletic trainer of the 2020 NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament and for the final four teams of the 2019 NCAA Men’s Soccer College Cup. She earned a Master of Education in Interdisciplinary Studies with a concentration in Exercise Science in May 2021.

She is a Certified Athletic Trainer by the Board of Certification and is licensed in North Carolina. She holds certifications in Mental Health First Aid and COVID Contract Tracing. Additionally, she is also certified by the American Heart Association (AHA) as a Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider.  

The Lillington, NC native currently resides in Charlotte, NC.
