A former player at UW, Mary Johnston joined head coach Nicole Van Dyke's staff ahead of the 2023 season as program coordinator.
In her role, Johnston assists with the planning and setup of UW's training sessions as well as scouting and personnel decisions, aids in various day-to-day operations for the program and responds to other duties as needs arise.
A native of Oak Harbor, Washington, Johnston played for four seasons for the Huskies from 2019-22, cementing herself as a starter for the final three campaigns. Johnston started all 18 matches during the Huskies' NCAA Sweet 16 season in the spring of 2021, registering a goal and two assists and helping the UW defense lock down 10 clean sheets.
As a fifth-year in the fall of 2021, Johnston started the first seven matches of the season before suffering a season-ending knee injury. She returned for a sixth collegiate season in 2022, starting 13 matches and helping UW secure five shutouts. Johnston once again suffered a knee injury during her final season in a Husky kit but returned for the final four matches of the year.
Prior to UW, Johnston played for two seasons at Maryland, appearing in a total of 22 matches.
A two-time graduate of the UW with both a bachelor's and master's degree, Johnston lives with her husband, Joel Walstad, as well as their dog, Pip, in Seattle.
