Matt Haney enters his ninth season as the head coach of the Bloomsburg University women's soccer team in 2023.

Under Haney, the women's soccer team has qualified for the NCAA Tournament in each of the past four seasons and the Huskies have made an appearance in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) tournament every year since Haney has been at the helm. The team's hot streak includes two PSAC titles in the past four seasons, with the last coming in 2021.

Last year, the Huskies went 14-5-2 overall and 11-3-2 and earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. During the conference tournament, Bloomsburg pulled off a win over Kutztown in the opening round to advance to the PSAC Semifinals. The team's defense was a key to its 14-win season as the Huskies had a .37 goals against average (3rd best in DII) and held opponents scoreless 14 times - which was tied for the most in the country at the conclusion of the regular season. Six players from the 2022 team were named the PSAC All-Conference Teams with three being named to the First Team and another three landing a spot on the Second Team. Lorelei Hartzfeld, Nicole Varano and Alivia Gallardo were all named to the First Team while Erin Ranegan, Paige Harris and Riley Spingler represented Bloomsburg on the Second Team. Hartzfeld and Varano were named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Region Teams, and Varano was additionally named a Scholar All-American by the United Soccer Coaches.

In 2021, Bloomsburg went 16-5-2 overall and 11-3-2 in conference play en route to a PSAC Championship. The squad secured an overtime win over Gannon University to advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, which marks the third straight season of the Huskies winning a game in the national tournament. One big factor in the team's success was the team's defense, which was anchored by goalkeeper Alexa Ryan and PSAC Defensive Player of the Year Natalie Holmes. Ryan led all of Division II with 14 shutouts in net while Holmes and other defenders helped limit opponents to just 65 shots on goal all season. Holmes was joined by Paige Harris, Erin Renegan and Helen Flynn on the United Soccer Coaches All-Atlantic Region Team. In addition, Holmes and Flynn were named All-Americans.

Prior to the 2020 season being canceled due to COVID-19, Haney led the Huskies to an 18-3-1 overall record and an 14-1-1 conference record in 2019. The team won its second straight Atlantic Region title, advancing to the NCAA national tournament quarterfinals. The Huskies also qualified for the PSAC tournament for the fifth straight year, advancing to the quarterfinals. The team featured three All-American selections by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) and the United Soccer Coaches in Tayah Naudascher (D2CCA third team), Jenna Hawkins (D2CCA & USC third team), and Lauren Hoelke (D2CCA second team & USC third team). Haney’s squad featured six all-conference selections and four named to the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) All-Atlantic Region team. Haney’s 2019 staff was honored by the United Soccer Coaches as the Atlantic Region Staff of the Year for the second-straight season and the Huskies were ranked sixth in the country according to the Final United Soccer Coaches poll.

The 2018 season saw Haney lead the Bloomsburg University women’s soccer team to a 17-3-3 overall record and a 12-2-2 conference record.  Haney’s 2018 squad made its fourth straight Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) tournament appearance and earned the team’s first conference title since 2002. Haney’s 2018 team featured two United Soccer Coaches All-Americans in Allie Barber (second team) and Tayah Naudascher (third team), and five All-Region players in Allie Barber (first team), Tayah Naudascher (first team), Natalie Holmes (second team), Jenna Hawkins (third team), and Erin Bielski (third team). The Huskies finished the season ranked fifth in the country according to the final United Soccer Coaches Poll.

In 2017, Haney led the Huskies to a 9-6-3 overall record and an 8-5-3 conference record. The team made its third straight Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) tournament appearance, advancing to the quarterfinals. The squad also finished the season ranked 10th in the Atlantic region. Haney's 2017 team featured three all-conference selections in Allie Barber (first team), Tayah Naudascher (third team) and Rachel Yenney (third team). Barber was also selected to the All-Atlantic Region second team.

In 2016, the Huskies went 9-7-2 but saw their season come to a close with a 3-0 loss at Kutztown in the PSAC quarterfinals. Allie Barber (Second Team), Devon Haviland (Second Team), and Tayah Naudascher (Third Team) went on to earn All-PSAC honors at year's end. Barber and Naudascher went on to earn Third Team All-Region honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).

Haney's 11 victories during his rookie campaign marked the second-highest total for a first-year coach in program history (Sandy Dickson went 16-1-4 in 1998). Bloomsburg went 9-6-1 against PSAC opponents - good for a tie for sixth place and a spot in the postseason.

After the 2015 season, Chrissy Hollan (First Team), Jenna Fisher (Third Team), and Allie Barber (Third Team) earned All-Conference accolades while Hollan also earned Second Team Academic All-American honors and was named All-Region by two different organizations.

In all, Haney has accumulated an overall record of 94-36-14 and conference record of 73-26-13 in seven full seasons of play while at Bloomsburg.

Prior to taking over the reins of the women's soccer program, Haney was an assistant for both the men's and women's programs in 2014. He came to Bloomsburg after serving two seasons as a volunteer coach for the men's soccer team at Bucknell University where he worked with the goalkeepers.

From 2000-03 and 2009-11, Haney was the top assistant coach and goalkeeper coach at York College. He also served as interim head coach at York in 2001.

Haney was a collegiate goalkeeper at both Wilkes University and Bloomsburg University. At Wilkes, he helped his team set school records for wins (16) and shutouts (13) in 1991, and a year later, the Colonels won the MAC Northeast Division. Haney was named the Team MVP at Bloomsburg in 1994.

During his first coaching stint at York, Haney completed his bachelor of science degree in elementary education, and he earned a Master's degree at Saint Francis University in 2009. Haney served as an assistant coach with the Red Flash while working on his graduate studies. From 2003-05, Haney was head boys' soccer coach at nearby Millville Area High School. He has also coached the Elite and Premier U17 teams with the FC York Soccer Club, and has extensive camp experience.

Haney is the son of the late Matt Haney who was the long time baseball coach at Bloomsburg, who until recently was the winningest head coach in program history.
