Began at Auburn: August 2015

Education: Smith graduated from Auburn University in 2015 with a Bachelor of Science in Fitness, Conditioning and Performance. He later earned a Master of Science in Physical Activity and Health from Auburn University in 2017.

Job Responsibilities: Smith assists co-directors of sports performance in day-to-day operations of our Olympic sports performance program. Matt is directly responsible for development and implementation of annual performance programs for Auburn’s soccer team and men’s golf team. Smith also serves as our kinesiology department liaison and leads intern education efforts.

Past Experience: Before becoming assistant director of sports performance in June of 2023 Smith served as a sports performance coach from August 2017 until June of 2023. Smith served as a graduate sports performance coach from August 2015 to August 2017 where he worked with men’s and women’s golf as well as men’s and women’s track and field. Matt interned with Auburn Olympic sports performance fall and spring semesters of 2014.

Certifications: Matt holds certifications from both nationally accredited strength & conditioning organizations, the National Strength and Conditioning Association (CSCS) since 2015, and the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (SCCC) since 2019.
