In terms of women’s soccer, Michele “Bud” Nagamine’s legacy is one of real success in the state of Hawai‘i as she was named the head coach at the University of Hawai‘i in 2011. Nagamine enters her 13th season leading the Rainbow Wahine soccer program in 2023.

Coaching Highlights

Led UH to its first-ever Big West Conference tournament bid in 2019 solidifying the No. 4 seed. 

Coached the first-ever UH player to win Big West Conference Offensive Player of the Year with Raisa Strom-Okimoto in 2018, and the first-ever UH player to win Goal Keeper of the Year in the Big West as well in 2019 with Alexis Mata.

Most successful season in terms of record was in 2016 with a 9-6-2 mark, including 7-1-2 record at home.

Nine student-athletes named to an All-Big West Team, including 10 total certificates.

Eight student-athletes named to NSCAA/United Soccer Coaches All-West Region Teams, including nine certificates.

78 student-athletes named to Academic All-Conference teams. (73 Big West, 5 WAC)

In 2016 led UH to its first-ever NSCAA West Region ranking, climbing to No. 4  in the polls.

Other Highlights 

USSF A-License 

Took over a three-win HPU program in 2007, and built them to a 10 win squad in 2008 during her first season. 

Served as head coach of Kamehameha Schools’ girl’s soccer team from 1991-2007 winning five Hawai‘i state championships and six Interscholastic League of Honolulu titles. 

As a high school head coach was named ILH Coach of the Year a record seven times and state Coach of the Year fives times.

Former owner of her own marketing group as well as a soccer retail store (Soccerama).

Served as the Director of Sports Marketing and Sales for Outrigger & ‘OHANA Hotels and Resorts from 2001-2011.
