Mike Martini is in the sixth year of his second stint working alongside Kim Sutton as the Wildcats’ goalkeeper coach. Since returning to the Chico State sidelines, Martini has helped the ’Cats reach the postseason four times, including two straight NCAA Championship Tournament appearances.

Prior to his latest coaching stint with the Wildcats, the former Chico State star mentored both the Wildcat men’s and women’s goalkeepers from 2002–04, helping lead the men to the 2003 NCAA West Region championship and the women to a CCAA North Division title in 2004. Martini has also registered several years training goalkeepers at the high school and club soccer levels.

Martini was an award-winning goalkeeper for Chico State, twice earning First Team All-Northern California Athletic Conference, and First Team All-Far West Region honors in 1996. Before joining the Wildcats, he was a JC All-American tending goal at Santa Rosa Junior College and a three-sport star (soccer, baseball and basketball) at Arcata High School. Martini went on to play five seasons in the professional ranks as a member of the Chico Rooks from 1997–2001.

Martini received a bachelor’s degree in education/therapeutic recreation from Chico State in 1997, later earning a teaching credential.
