Pat Naughter begins his 14th season as the head coach of the MSU women's soccer program in 2023 and in his decade-plus in charge of the program has re-established Montclair State as both a contender for both New Jersey Athletic Conference championships and NCAA Division III Tournament berths.

Through his first 13 seasons, Naughter has led the Red Hawks to a 185-52-34record, including the three top seasons since the program’s inception in 1990. His .744 winning percentage is the best in program history and he has led the Red Hawks to three NJAC championships, three conference regular-season crowns and seven NCAA Division III Tournament appearances.

Named the fifth coach in program history in July 2010

Has led the Red Hawks to three NJAC Championships (‘12, ‘14, ‘20)

Guided Montclair State to five NCAA Tournament appearances (’12, ’13, ’14, ’15, ’16, '22, '27)

Taken Montclair to 12 NJAC Tournaments, including six berths in the title contest

Coached Montclair to four NJAC regular-season championships

Named NJAC Coach of the Year five times (’12, ’13, ’18, ’20, '22)

Chosen NSCAA South Atlantic Region Coach of the Year (2013)

Has seen 16 players capture “Player of the Year” awards from the NJAC

Players have earned 87 All-Conference Honors

Coached six United Soccer Coaches Division III All-Americans

Eight student-athletes Named CoSIDA Academic All-Americans

Team has earned the MSU Highest Team GPA Award Three Times (’11, ’17, ’19)

Became the all-time winningest coach in program history surpassing Eileen Blair with his 137th victory in a 2-1 win over Kean on October 30, 2019.

Guided the Red Hawks to the most successful season in the 24-year history of the program in 2013 as Montclair went 20-1-1, setting a single-season mark for victories while also establishing a new program mark for consecutive wins. MSU won its first 18 games and recorded the 10th undefeated regular season in Montclair State athletic history. Montclair also spent several weeks at No. 1 in the D3Soccer.com Top 25.

Team led the nation in goals against average in 2013 at 0.18 allowing four in 22 contests while posting 19 shutouts, another program record. The Red Hawks tied William Smith for the national lead in shutout percentage at 0.864.

Graduated from Montclair State in 2002. Earned his master’s degree from New Jersey City University in 2006.

Played for the Red Hawks from 1996-1999 helping Montclair to a 43-27-10 mark. MSU made two appearances in the NCAA Division III Tournament (1996 and 1998) and was the runner up for the ECAC Metro Championship in 1997. He scored two goals during the 1998 campaign and was an integral part in a defensive unit that allowed just 13 goals during a 14-3-3 campaign.

Spent three seasons as an assistant coach with the men’s team.

Spent three years as the head coach of the boys’ soccer team at Northern Highlands Regional High School in Allendale, NJ compiling a 40-12-6 record and led the Highlanders to the 2009 NJSIAA North 1, Group 3 Sectional final in addition to North Bergen Interscholastic Athletic League (NBIAL) championship.

Served as a coach with the NJ Crush and served five years with the Wyckoff Torpedoes U-18 squad that was a semifinalist in the 1999 State Cup as well as finalists in the Virginia Tournament three times.
