Sarah Ramey is now in her 17th season as the Director of Athletic Performance at West Texas A&M University while entering her third campaign as Deputy Athletics Director and fourth as the university's Senior Woman Administrator.
Ramey oversees WT student-athletes in all sports in the areas of health and performance, the benefits of which can be seen in the numerous honors and team championships which WT has garnered during her tenure at WT, as well as by her being recognized as the 2009 recipient of the Samson Equipment Strength & Conditioning Coach of the Year Award, as given by American Football Monthly.
She currently works directly with Volleyball, Women’s Basketball, Women’s Soccer, Baseball and Women’s Golf with past experience with Football, Men’s Basketball and Men’s Soccer. Ramey served as the inaugural chair of the Lone Star Conference Athletic Performance Advisory Committee from January 2020-2022 which acts as an advisory group to the Lone Star Conference. In September 2021 she began a year and a half term as the South Central Region representative on the D2 Track & Field National Committee. In May 2022 Ramey was voted to the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Associate (CSCCa) Board of directors for a three year term. In January 2023 Ramey began a four term on the D2 Management Council as an at-large appointee, including an assignment on the all division Competitive Safeguards and Medical Aspects in Sport (CSMAS) that works directly with the NCAA Sports Science Institute (SSI) on all things health, performance and wellness for student-athletes. She is the current chair of the LSC CAA.
From 2003-07 she served as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at the University of Colorado. In that capacity, she worked with the school’s football, volleyball, women’s soccer and alpine skiing squads. In addition, Ramey became a registered yoga instructor and taught yoga classes at Colorado.
Prior to her stint at Colorado, Ramey worked for one year as a graduate assistant coach at Kansas State, where she earned her master’s degree in Kinesiology in August of 2004. Before attending KSU, Ramey took on a five-month internship with Mike Boyle Strength and Conditioning in Winchester, MA.
During her collegiate days, Ramey was a three-year volleyball letter winner at Wichita State where she played middle blocker and right side hitter for the Shockers. She graduated with a degree in Exercise Science and minor in Sports Administration.
No stranger to the West Texas region, Ramey lived in Hereford, Texas, for five years before graduating from Andover High School in Andover, Kansas.
Ramey’s certifications include MSCC/SCCC (CSCCa), CSCS (NSCA), TPI Fitness Level 2 (Titleist Performance Institute), Pn1 (Precision Nutrition), CPR/First Aid/AED and Mental Health First Aid.
She enjoys participating in anything outdoors and has done 5K's up to Ironman distance triathlons and has completed 4 Ironman’s. Ramey now pursues events off-road including 6-24 hour mountain bike races and gravel events.
