T.J. Perez became the 3rd coach in the Beaver soccer program's history when he was named head coach in December of 2022 following one season as interim head coach.

Perez took over as interim head coach in August of 2022, his third year with the program, as he previously served as an assistant coach with the Minot State University women’s soccer team under Chris Clements after joining the coaching staff on June 18, 2020. He has a wealth of experience as a coach and a player at the collegiate level including spending the last two seasons as an assistant coach with the Sonoma State University men’s soccer team.

During the 2022 season as interim head coach, Perez guided the Beavers to a 9-3-9 overall record, a fourth-place finish in the NSIC, a home playoff game, and to the NSIC Tournament championship game. Minot State also went 10 games without allowing a goal during the season, and goalie Maddie Kindred set a single-season (14) and career shutout (26) records as she earned Academic All-American honors. Kindred also was one of six players to earn NSIC All-Conference honors, and one of nine players named to the NSIC All-Academic Team.

During the fall 2021 season, Perez helped guide the Beavers to an 11-6-2 overall record that included a 10-3-2 mark in NSIC play, good for fourth place in the regular-season standings and the right to host a first-round NSIC Playoff game.

At the conclusion of the first year with the Beavers, Minot State soccer went 5-4 during a shortened spring season after the cancellation of the fall year.

During his time as coach with Sonoma State, Perez oversaw recruiting, camps, scouting, and the 2019 Europe Tour that took the team to Holland, Belgium, and Germany. Simultaneously, he coached with Santa Rosa United managing training including video assignments and was the assistant coach for the development academy.

From 2015-2018, the Santee, California native coached with North Coast FC helping to organize press conferences and manage player and team goals alongside organizing training sessions and scheduling games. In 2016, under his guidance, the North Coast FC girls red team won the Santa Cruz Breakers Cup and reached the finals of the State Cup in 2018.

Perez brings nine years of coaching experience to the Beavers women’s soccer team and 20 years of playing experience including four years at Sonoma State University as a forward. He earned noteworthy accolades in the classroom and on the field, including All-Academic Awards and two-time CCAA Player of the Week in 2015 and 2017. He led the team with seven goals during his junior season and paced the Seawolves with three game-winning goals.

Prior to transferring to Sonoma State, he played two seasons at Cal State University Los Angeles helping lead the men's soccer team to a 2013 CCAA Championship and two NCAA Tournament appearances. Perez earned All-Academic honors was an Honor Student while at CSULA.

Perez graduated with a Bachelor of Science and Kinesiology and earned his Master of Arts in School of Education with a 4.0 GPA from Sonoma State in 2017.
