Travis McCorkle, the winningest coach in Angelo State history, has developed a pattern of leading the Angelo State soccer program to places it has never been before.

A proven winner after 14 seasons as the head soccer coach at ASU, McCorkle has led the Belles to four Lone Star Conference Championships, fourteen 10-plus win seasons, and six NCAA postseason appearances. He directed the program to its fourth Lone Star Conference Championship in 2020. The Belles hosted the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Tournament for the first time in program history in 2015 after winning their first NCAA Tournament game in 2014. McCorkle and staff were named the Regional and National staff of the year in the 2020 season while he was named the LSC’s Coach of the Year for the fifth time in his career.

A Glenwood Springs, Colo. native, he has guided the Belles to a 178-86-26 overall record and a 103-51-14 Lone Star Conference mark at ASU. Seventy-nine ASU players have earned All-LSC postseason recognition, including the LSC Defensive Player of the Year (Cassidy Hill) and Goalkeeper of the Year (Kira Miller) following the 2022 season.

The Rambelles made it to their second consecutive NCAA South Central Regional after finishing second in the Lone Star Conference in 2022. Cassidy Hill was named the Defensive Player of the Year in the conference, while Kira MIller earned her second consecutive Goalkeeper of the Year Honor. Miller was also named as the LSC Academic Player of the Year. The Rambelles defeated the No. 1 ranked DBU Patriots 2-0 in San Angelo. The Rambelles fell 3-1 in overtime in the first round of the 2022 South Central Regional to UC-Colorado Springs.

The Belles matched their best season in program history in 2021 after winning 16 games and advancing to the second round of the NCAA DII Tournament. The Blue and Gold captured their third LSC tournament championship, defeating DBU 1-0 in the championship game to secure an automatic bid to the national tournament. In the first round of the NCAA Tournament, the Belles defeated Westchester 3-2 before falling to DBU in round two by the same score. Avery McNeme was named the LSC Midfielder of the Year for the fourth time and Kira Miller was named the LSC Goalkeeper of the Year for the first time. McNeme was also named an All-American for the second time in her career, the fourth player under McCorkle to garner the All-American title.

The 2020 season (played in the spring of 2021) saw the Belles go a perfect 10-0 on the season, including 5-0 in LSC play. They scored 24 goals and only conceded two, and were the only team to shut-out top-ranked Dallas Baptist in the LSC Tournament final, which ASU won 1-0 in extra-time. McCorkle received LSC Coach of the Year honors, while Avery McNeme was named the LSC Player of the Year and the Midfielder of the Year. Cassidy Hill was named Defender of the Year and Gabby Villagrand was named the Forward of the Year. McCorkle and staff received Regional and National staff of the year honors following the undefeated campaign.

ASU had an impressive 2018 season, winning the LSC Conference Tournament and the program's fifth trip to the NCAA Tournament.

ASU had a strong 2017 season, combing youth with experienced returners to win the program's third LSC title - all under McCorkle. The Colorado native won his fourth conference Coach of the Year award and took the team back to his home state to play as the No. 3 seed in the South Central Regional in Colorado Springs. It was the Belles' fourth NCAA Tournament appearance under McCorkle as well as the third in the last four seasons.

The 2016 season saw the team win at least 10 matches for the fifth-straight season and qualify for the LSC Tournament.

The 2015 season was capped off with the program’s second Lone Star Conference title. A 1-0 win over Texas Woman’s clinched the title and moved McCorkle past Tom Brown as the winningest coach in school history with 91 wins. The Belles were one of the top teams defensively, only allowing .512 goals-against average which was No. 9 nationally. Wittke had the No. 3 best save percentage at .904.

The Belles made history in 2014 by defeating Metro State 2-0 in the first round of the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Tournament. It marked the first win in NCAA postseason history for a program that was making just its second appearance since the program began in 1996.

Angelo State set a single-season record for most conference wins (9) in a season while clinching their first NCAA berth in 2010 under McCorkle’s leadership. The Belles also earned their first postseason win in program history with a 2-0 victory over Texas A&M-Commerce at the conference tournament in 2010.

McCorkle has held a USSF “A” Coaching License since 1995 and earned a Youth Coaching License from the U.S. Soccer Federation in 1997. He also holds an Advanced National Coaching License from the NSCAA. He has served as a head coach in the New Mexico Olympic Development Program (ODP) from 2006-08 and was on the Colorado ODP coaching staff from 1992-01. He has been a member of the U.S. Soccer Coaches Organization since 1993 and the NSCAA since 1995.

As a player, McCorkle founded, coached, and played for the Mesa State College club team from 1987-91 and was named team MVP for the 1987-88 seasons. He earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education from Mesa State in 1994 and his master’s degree in sport administration from the University of Northern Colorado in 2001. His wife, Luann, is a human resources specialist at Angelo State.
