William Roberts was named assistant soccer coach at ULM in 2020.

Alongside head coach Sean Fraser, Roberts has helped transform the ULM soccer program in two seasons.

Roberts helped guide the Warhawks to eight wins in 2021, marking the fifth-most wins in a single-season in program history. ULM also advanced to the semifinals of the Sun Belt Conference Championship for the first time in program history. The club set single-season program records for points (146), goals (53) and shots (383). Theoni Zerva and Courtney Marten were each named First-Team All-Louisiana by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association and Second-Team All-Sun Belt Conference after Zerva set the school record for points (32) and assists (10) in a single season, and Marten set the school records for goals (14) and game-winning goals (5). Mara Grutkamp was named honorable mention All-Louisiana after scoring six goals with five assists.

In his first season at ULM, Roberts helped the Warhawks to their most wins (5) since 2016 while scoring the most goals (21) since 2015. Freshman forward Janet Stopka was an honorable mention selection to the All-Louisiana team from the Louisiana Sports Writers Association after scoring a school-record tying 10 goals.

The Denbigh, North Wales native came to ULM with head coach Sean Fraser after working for Fraser as a graduate assistant at Lincoln Memorial University.

At LMU, Roberts helped guide the Railsplitter women’s program to a pair of South Atlantic Conference Tournament championships and NCAA Division II Tournament appearances. In 2018, Roberts was on staff as LMU finished 14-5-2 overall, while going 7-3 in the SAC and winning the conference tournament. The Railsplitters advanced to the Sweet 16 and finished the season with a No. 18 ranking in the United Soccer Coaches DII National Poll. Roberts assisted LMU’s late-season run in 2019 as the Railsplitters won the SAC Tournament for a second consecutive season and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament. LMU achieved a No. 6 ranking by the United Soccer Coaches, the highest ranking in program history.

During his collegiate career at the University of Charleston in Charleston, West Virginia, Roberts was a four-time National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-American and a four-time national semifinalist. His 72 goals at Charleston rank him in the Top 25 all-time in the history of NCAA Division II soccer. In 2017, he led his team to the national championship, as well as runner-up finishes in 2014 and 2016.
