Following an extensive search, York College has selected Winston Willabus to lead the women’s soccer program as head coach.

“We are excited to announce our new head women’s soccer coach, Winston Willabus, to take the reins of the program moving forward.  Winston is an experienced coach who is passionate about the game and is motivated to further develop his knowledge and coaching education to lead the program to the next level through the retention of current student-athletes along with the recruitment of new prospects for the program to expand the depth and competitive level of the team.  I welcome Winston and look forward to seeing him take the team to new heights during the upcoming Fall season. Go Cardinals!” said director of athletics Carl Christian.

Honing his skill set in several capacities within the soccer environment throughout his career, Willabus brings coaching, club operations, player development, and playing experience to York.  Willabus’ career has spanned for over a decade, allowing him to coach at the grassroots, club and secondary school levels.

“I would like to thank President Eanes and director of athletics Carl Christian, as well as the staff and student-athletes for welcoming me into the York College family.  I am truly excited about the leadership plan that the college has adopted and the investments that have been undertaken to develop the student-athlete experience at York,” said Willabus.

Willabus is certified with a United States Soccer Federation (USSF) National C License, and is currently a candidate for a USSF National B License.

“I believe that we have student-athletes who are truly committed to excellence and will soon prove that they are prepared to be positive contributors to the “three main pillars” as outlined by President Eanes, especially, the development of a “Vibrant Community and Campus Spirit,” noted Willabus.

Since 2019, Willabus has served as the head coach for the girls soccer program at the Hewitt School in Manhattan.

Prior to joining the Hewitt School, Willabus served as head coach at Unity Prep Charter School, leading the boys and girls varsity programs from 2018-19.

In the role of Executive Director for the Monarchs United Football Club, Inc. since 2018, Willabus has provided a dynamic, high-quality, soccer experience for youth at all skill levels in the NYC metro area.

Getting his start in coaching with the Bergen Beach Youth Organization, Willabus developed the U13-U17 programs from 2006-17.  He also coached the U14/15 girls program for  Marine Park Soccer / American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) Region 266.

Willabus credits soccer with being instrumental to his personal and professional development and views the “beautiful game” as the perfect conduit to develop and encourage future generations for lifelong success.

Willabus has played soccer at many different levels throughout the United States. After competing for Glencliff High School team in Nashville, Tennessee, Willabus played for multiple military and law enforcement connected teams.  From 2016-18, Willabus joined with others to expose, encourage and enhance the game within underserved communities in Southern Brooklyn through U.S. Soccer Foundation.

A proud CUNY Graduate, Willabus earned degrees from John Jay College with a bachelor's in Criminal Justice followed by graduating Summa Cum Laude in the Public Administration master’s program.

As residents of Brooklyn, Willabus and his wife, Dimple, are proud parents of two children.

“I look forward to guiding York women’s soccer towards its greatest achievements both on and off of the pitch. Go Cardinals!” added Willabus.
