Austin Swartz is in his fourth year as part of the Chico State men’s soccer coaching staff. In his two seasons of competition working alongside head coach Felipe Restrepo, Swartz has helped lead the Wildcats to 18 victories and a pair of postseason appearances.

Swartz boasted an impressive coaching resume prior to joining the Wildcat program in 2019. He spent the 2017 and 2018 seasons as an assistant coach at Division I Sacramento State, and from 2015–16 was the head assistant coach at Humboldt State.

Swartz has also coached at the club level for several years, logging a lengthy stint with the Mad River United Soccer Club in McKinleyville. He has also served as head coach of the Folsom Lake Earthquakes. Since 2019, he has served as a coach locally for the Chico FC.

As a player, Swartz was a prep standout at Ponderosa High School in Shingle Springs, where he earned All-Sierra Valley Conference honors. The Sacramento native played a year at American River College before becoming an All-California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) performer at Humboldt State. A team captain during his senior year, Swartz helped lead the Lumberjacks to an 8-1-1 record to begin the 2014 campaign—the most successful season start in the program’s history.

Swartz earned bachelor’s degrees in history and philosophy from Humboldt State in 2014. He received his master’s degree in coaching and athletic administration at Concordia-Irvine in 2019.
