Danny Gilbertson joined the Geneseo men's soccer coaching staff for the 2021 season. Gilbertson brings nearly 20 years of coaching experience within the region to the Geneseo sideline.
Over the course of two stints, Gilbertson has been a member of the Hobart coaching staff for seven seasons. He teamed with head coach Shawn Griffin to transform the Statesmen into one of the top programs in the region. The Statesmen earned a Liberty League Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance in 2019 as Gilbertson helped the squad to a 14-5-2 record. Gilbertson and the Hobart coaching staff was chosen as the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association's Coaching Staff of the Year in 2003 as well.
Gilbertson served as head coach at Nazareth for 12 seasons (2004-2015), leading the team to 90 victories and seven Empire 8 Tournament appearances. In 2006, Gilbertson's Golden Flyers earned a program-record 15 victories and advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals, with NCAA Tournament victories over Geneseo, Medaille and UC Santa Cruz. He was named the 2006 National Soccer Coaches Association (NSCA, now United Soccer Coaches) Northeast Region Coach of the Year.
As a player, Gilbertson was a four-year starter and three-year captain while playing center back and center midfield at Plymouth State University (N.H.). He led the Panthers to three NCAA Tournament appearances and an undefeated regular season in 1998. He earned All-American honors in '98 and was a three-time Little East Conference all-star selection.
After graduating with a degree in physical education, Gilbertson played one season for the Vermont Voltage of the USL's Premier Development League.
