Drew Johnson joined the Oredigger men's soccer coaching staff late in the fall of 2021 making the 2023 season his third as an assistant coach with the team focused on goalkeeper development.

During his time on staff, Mines has twice advanced to the NCAA Tournament and swept the RMAC regular season and tournament titles in 2022. Goalkeeper Brian Doherty earned Honorable Mention All-RMAC honors during the season while Kenneth Symmes stepped up in the postseason and was named to the RMAC All-Tournament team. That season Mines posted a 1.08 GAA and a .744 save percentage for the second season in a row while also again turning in 10 shutouts. Their 23 goals allowed were tied for fifth-fewest in the league and took place over the span of 21 matches while their save percentage and GAA each ranked third in the conference.

In 2021, the Orediggers posted a GAA of 0.87 with a .735 save percentage, recording eight shutouts and allowing just 50 goals against 185 shots faced. In 2022, Mines recorded a GAA of 1.10 and raised their save percentage to .744 while recording 10 shutouts. Their GAA ranked third in the RMAC and they ranked fifth in the league in goals allowed with 23 in 21 games.

Johnson joined Mines' staff just two years after completing his career as an Oredigger goalkeeper. The two-time Mines graduate played for Head Coach Greg Mulholland from 2015-19. During that time, Johnson posted a goalkeeping record of 33-6-5 with 21 total shutouts over the course of 4013 minutes in net. He tallied 142 saves and finished his career with a 0.74 goals-against average. Johnson also notched one assist as well. He is listed multiple times in the program record book including the all-time mark for career goals-against average while also ranking #3 and tied for #4 on the single-season GAA list. Johnson ranks #2 in program history in career shutouts as well. His 11 clean sheets in 2019 rank #1 all-time at Mines and 10 in 2018 ranks #2 all-time. Johnson earned two degrees as an Oredigger including a bachelor's in mechanical engineering and a master's in engineering & technology management.
