Georg Montag will enter his 19th season with the Holy Family men’s soccer program in 2023, the previous 11 of which have been as the head coach.

Montag became the fifth head coach in program history on Nov. 30, 2011, after serving seven seasons as the head assistant coach. During that span, the Tigers were 73-55-10 and advanced to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship Final twice.

The Tigers have a winning league record and have qualified for the CACC Tournament in each of the previous five seasons, advancing to the CACC Semifinals in each of the last four.

The 2022 season was one of the best in program history, as HFU set a program record with nine CACC victories and tied another with a second place finish in the regular season standings. HFU’s 12 overall wins were its most since 2007.

All that led to Montag winning his first career CACC Coach of the Year award.

Montag had a stellar playing career as a four-year starter at nearby La Salle University, where he was a three-time All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and three-time All-Soccer Seven selection.

A two-time Regional All-American, he ended his career as the program’s all-time leader with 97 points, 37 goals and 23 assists. Those numbers currently rank second, third and tied for third in the program’s history.

Montag was drafted to play in the National Professional Soccer League following graduating in 1992.

He would go on to be inducted into the La Salle University Athletic Hall of Fame in 1997, and he is also a member of both the Philadelphia Soccer and the Archbishop Ryan High School Halls of Fame.

Montag previously coached at both Archbishop Ryan and with the Bensalem School District. Away from the field, he is an accountant and an information technologies manager in Newtown.

In addition to graduating from La Salle with a degree in finance, he completed his Master’s of Elementary Education from Holy Family.
