Johnny Whallon joined the UC Santa Barbara men’s soccer staff on March 1, 2023. Previously, Whallon served as the lead assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Westmont College.

Originally from the Boston area, Whallon moved out to Southern California in 2013.

During his 10-year tenure at Westmont, the Warriors won five GSAC titles, went to three NAIA National Tournaments, and averaged over 9 wins per season. Whallon was also involved in the professional soccer world, hosting a number of training camps for MLS teams including NYCFC, LA Galaxy, and Minnesota United.

From 2015-2019, Whallon worked as an assistant coach for the Ventura County Fusion, a USL-2 team (formerly PDL) and coached some of the best college players in America. The Fusion played a number of professional teams during his stint with the organization.

Whallon graduated from Wheaton College (Ill.) in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and played for the Thunder for four years, qualifying for the NCAA National Tournament all four years.

Whallon works in the local youth soccer scene with Santa Barbara Soccer Club, as an administrator and coach.

Whallon is certified with the U.S Soccer Federation "A-Senior" Coaching License and National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Premier Coaching Diploma.

He recently earned his master’s degree in coaching and athletic administration at Concordia-Irvine.

Whallon and his wife Lauren live in Santa Barbara.
