Mary Catherine "M.C" Avey joined the College of Charleston staff as an Assistant Athletic Trainer in August of 2021. She works primarily with the Men’s Soccer program and assists with Men's Tennis. 

Avey graduated from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in 2019 with a Bachelor of Arts in Athletic Training. While at UNCW, Avey received professional athletic training experience in the college’s Softball, Basketball, Volleyball, M/W Soccer, and Track & Field programs. She was awarded the Terry Middleswarth Leadership Award in 2018 from UNCW's Athletics Department. She went on to get her Master of Science degree in Advanced Athletic Training at the University of South Carolina in 2021. While at USC, she worked as a graduate assistant athletic trainer for USC Campus Recreation and South Carolina State University’s Softball and Volleyball teams. Additionally, Avey was a Professional Athletic Training Program Teaching Assistant for the University from 2019-2020. 

Avey has had several internships including time with the Carolina Panthers in 2018 as and the Charlotte Eagles Semi-professional Soccer teams in 2016 and 2017. She conducted research during her time at USC regarding Access to Healthcare within the Collegiate ROTC populations and has been published in several distinguished journals in 2021. 

She is a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA), South Carolina Athletic Trainers' Association (SCATA), and the SCATA College and University Committee. 

When Avey isn’t working, she loves to try new coffee shops/restaurants around Charleston and spend time at the beach with friends!
