Matt Mason was named an assistant men's soccer coach at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy ahead of the 2020 season. He came to Kings Point after spending the previous six seasons at SUNY Maritime College.

Mason helped lead the Privateers to the 2019 NCAA National Championships after winning the Skyline Conference Championship as the #6 seed. He was also on the staff of the Maritime teams that qualified for back-to-back ECAC Tournaments in 2017 and 2018.

Mason knows the Skyline Conference very well, as he played in at St. Joseph’s (L.I.). He was the starting netminder for his four seasons with the Golden Eagles and was a multiple All-Conference selection. He holds numerous school records including saves in a season, and saves in a career.

No stranger to leading teams, Mason has run the goalkeeping program for various club groups on Long Island, while also training groups from U-12 teams through U-18 teams since 2011. In addition to his school records, he is also amongst the single-season record leaders in NCAA Division III history with 234 saves in 2003 and 233 saves in 2000. In regards to career saves, Mason ranks third all-time in Division III with 831 to his credit, the only collegiate goalkeeper with over 600 saves since the 2000 season.

Mason has worked for the New York City Department of Education since 2007, serving in a multitude of roles as a teacher of many subjects for Grades 6-8. In addition to his teaching, Mason still remains active as a soccer player as he takes part in several leagues throughout the year.

Mason is a 2005 graduate of St. Joseph’s, having earned his degree in Child Study, while earning a minor in History. He also earned a Master's Degree in Literacy from Dowling College in 2007.

The Long Island-native currently resides in nearby Great Neck, N.Y.
