Michael Callahan enters his second season with the George Mason men’s soccer program for the 2023 season.

Callahan joined the Patriots after spending 2021-2022 as a Volunteer Assistant with Virginia Commonwealth University.

Callahan played at North Carolina (2005-2008) where he graduated with a B.S. in Economics in 2009.  He was selected to the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) ALL-Freshman Team in 2005 and was a three-time member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll.

In 2008, Callahan earned All-American and Academic All-American honors while playing for the Tar Heels.  Callahan was team captain his senior year and helped the club reach the national championship game.

After his collegiate career, Callahan played 166 matches over eight years professionally in the United Soccer League.  He joined the expansion Austin Aztex FC (2009-2010) and then signed with the Richmond Kickers (2011-2016).  He was club captain and player/assistant coach his final season with the Kickers.

Following his successful career as a player, Callahan continued with Richmond as an assistant coach from 2016-2018.

A native of Cary, N.C., Callahan played club soccer for CASL and attended Green Hope High School.

Callahan was the head coach and club administrator for the Richmond United Development Academy and ECNL (2017-2022).
