Tyler E. Smith joined the Averett University Sports Performance staff as an assistant coach in July 2023.

A native of King, North Carolina, Smith gained experience in the strength and conditioning field as an intern with the United States Army Special Operations Command in Fort Bragg, North Carolina during the summer of 2022. He also served as a strength and conditioning intern for the football program at Division I North Carolina A&T University during the summer of 2021.

Smith graduated from Winston-Salem State University in May 2023 with a bachelor’s degree in physical education. He was a three-year member of the Division II Rams’ football program and also ran cross country for one season. Smith has also been a member of the U.S. Army Reserves Officer Training Corps since 2019.

In addition to strength and conditioning, Smith was an assistant coach for the baseball program at his alma mater, West Stokes High School, from 2020-22.

Smith is first aid/CPR/AED certified and certified through USA Weightlifting as a Level 1 sports performance coach.

Smith is pursuing a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in leadership from Averett.
